Think Tank

Contemporary Society and Contemporary Religion

The Christ Church ThinkTank has been in existence for over 10 years. It draws on speakers from all the churches in the Lewes area.  Whether you go to church or not, come whenever the topic interests you. The format is 45 minutes talk and 45 minutes discussion and our average attendance is about 30. All meetings are from 7.30 pm to 9 pm.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 24 January 2018, when Professor Liz Somerville  will be speaking on

Touching the past: Why archaeology matters

Liz Somerville retired in 2015 from her post as Senior Lecturer in Biology at Sussex. She taught a range of subjects including Human Evolution and Environmental History which included some archaeology. She has been a member of the Sussex Archaeological Society since moving to Lewes and is currently a member of its Editorial Board. She has participated in local excavations, and undertaken post-excavation work on animal bones and marine shell. Her talk will reflect on the ways in which archaeology, whether concerned with small objects or large monuments, can connect us with the past and give us a sense of the continuity of the human story

The following meeting will be on Wednesday 21 February 2018, when Reg Lanaway will be speaking on

Over sixty years in farming: how things have changed.
